Over 4 million people work in the fashion industry, which means that fashion lovers who are better at business than design still have a chance to work in the industry. While the fashion industry is concentrated in New York City, California, Italy, Miami, Milan, London and Paris, fashion industry employers are located in most parts of the world. Working in the fashion industry requires an understanding of the global economy, which is why an MBA would be useful for an aspiring fashion manager.
While most business schools do not offer MBA programs with a concentration in fashion, there are a handful of schools that do -- mostly in Europe. Kent State's MBA program emphasizes applied coursework and experiential learning opportunities. Kent State also has a School of Fashion Design and Merchandising which is one of the top American fashion schools according to Fashionista. This program allows students to broaden their horizons beyond industry specific functions like design or marketing in order to reach more strategic senior-management roles.
